So my TVs HDMI board died and now I cant get image from anything other than VGA or component. I obviously dont want to use VGA cause I want HD image. Is there any wire I can use that plugs into either the DVI/Dsplay port/HDMI ports on my graphics card, to component ports on my TV? Its my backup tv in the basement so I dont want to spend any money repairing it, but I also like to use it to watch movies on it off my PC>

Solution

VGA can do HD (1366x768) just fine. It can usually handle FHD (1920x1080) as well, though the image quality will depend on the quality of your video card, cable, and monitor. As no video card natively puts out component, VGA will be easier (fewer converters).

If you've got an older video card with VGA or DVI-I (which includes both DVI-D and VGA in the DVI connector), then that's the easiest way to output VGA. Most newer cards are digital-only, meaning you'll need an active converter which handles the digital-to-analog conversion of HDMI/DVI/displayport to VGA.

"Composite" video is only 480i resolution, so that's probably not what they want. : P

You would likely want a box like that, only for "component" video. They appear to cost more though (around $30). Have you checked what resolution your TV accepts for input over VGA? Assuming your graphics card even supports analog connections, that is.
