I have HP 14s-cf3 laptop.

I want to know if I can connect two external monitors to this laptop. I am able to connect one external monitor through HDMI port. Can I connect another monitor to type C port? I want two different screens appear on these two monitors, not the same screen mirrored on these two monitors.

I checked processor i3 - 1005G1 and intels page says, it supports 3 displays. But how do I know if laptop motherboard and ports dont form any restriction on connecting two external monitors and that I can indeed connect 2nd external monitor to type C port?

If not through type C port, what other options I have for connecting two external monitor.

Solution
You can take a closer look at the current display information.

Open Powershell as Admin and run the following cmdlet:

Get-CimInstance -ClassName Win32_VideoController

You should be able to simply copy the above line and paste it into Powershell after the PS> prompt.

(Just run locally and ignore the remote computer options.)

There may be a number of options to try. Miracast is one but likewise must be supported.

What works often narrows down to...

Start with the laptop's User Guides. Check specifications and supported configurations.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-14s-cf0000-laptop-pc/20395774/manuals

Details matter so be sure that you are referring to the applicable User Guide.

Read the fine print, pay attention to warnings, go to HP's website for additional/updated information. Likely to be suggested in the User Guide.

If you want to display two different screens, you would use Extend mode. One app/window on one monitor, another app/window on the second monitor.

You can select display choices by using "WIN" + "P" keys to reveal the Project(ion) options: PC screen only, Duplicate, Extend, Second screen only.

Right clicking an empty area of the desktop should allow you access to the applicable GPU's Control Panel.

Ther reason why I specified "I want two different screens on two different monitors" because I got somewhat screwed recently. I bought this Lenovo USB-C 3-in-1 travel adapter because it says "dual monitor display". It also had this image:

image.png

But when I tried, it used to cast same screen to both monitors. I cannot switch even to extend mode through "Win + P " menu. I still dont know why such is the case. When I called up Lenovo toll free, they said its not Thunderbolt 3. And that may be the case as the web page does not say its Thunderbolt 3. But still I am not completely sure whats wrong precisely. And its completely deceiving when they had this picture and said "dual monitor display". And now they have removed this image too from the sales page (I had this image in a mail to their support).

Unfortunately, not sure (full disclosure) what to suggest....

It is all too common that product "ads" are misleading both in what is said/implied but not really said. And the fine print often gets in the way as well.

Thunderbolt 3:

You can easily find other similar links to delve into details and perhaps identify what is going astray.

I am going to move your thread from Laptop Tech Support to Displays. More applicable category I think and hopefully someone there may recognize the problem(s).

This might be an ideal solution.

Unfortunately, I didnt find any details on conencting display to USB-C port in user guide. Dont know whether to interpret this as not possible.
Can we run some software and find whether USB C supports display signal before buying any adapter?
Can we connect one display through cable and another through wireless (say Miracast) connection?

What works often narrows down to details between hardware, software/drivers, firmware, and allowed system configuration settings.

Take a careful look at any adapter specs and try to verify via additional sources or reference materials.

The details are important and they do matter. Fine print, caveats, references to other sites, etc..
