Can I connect two monitors to my one PC using a DVI for one and HDMI for the other?

I plug in my other monitor (the one using HDMI) to my pc but I get no signal. I know the monitor is functional and I feel stupid asking this question because it seems so simple, but I can't figure it out. Whenever I plug in the HDMI monitor it just tells me no signal but the other one (DVI) works.

yes you can assuming your video cards supports it. i did it this way for quite some time, now i have a 23inch monitor via hdmi and a 43 inch monitor/tv via display port.

My pc doesn’t detect it as a display when I have both of them plugged in

Are you using video outputs on motherboard? Video outputs on discrete graphics card?

I have a Asrock a97m motherboard, intel i5 4690k, and a gtx 970. I’m plugging the hdmi cable from my monitor into the back of my pc’s hdmi port.

How do I do that? Just so you know my main monitor (DVI) is connected to the back of my pc too.

How do I do that?

Disconnect from one video output and connect to another video output. What's difficult about that?
