I have a DVD player with its own 5.1 speaker setup, can I connect my
Xbox to it so I can get 5.1 surround sound?

Look on the back of your DVD player for a optical input.
If it has one, pick up aMS Hi-Def Pack, a cheap toslink/optical cable and
you are good to go.

Yes the MS hi-def has Video Component outputs as well as L&R audio and
5.1 toslink optical output. Buy a optical cable and connect the MS
Hi-Def pack to your DVD IF IT HAS AN OPTICAL INPUT!!!
That is what I did here and it works great.
Now you can here the enemy coming up behind you.
Wow.

Cool! I considered either getting a new A/V receiver or a Logitech
Z-680 but the prices are to constricting...already spent enough money
on Monster Cables and Halo headsets. Your solution will save me moolah
which in turn can be spent on games!
Thanks!

monster is evil....granted I am rough on my equipment....but I had the
green end of a monster hdav cable rip off the 4th or 5th time it was
unplugged....my 20 dollar microsoft one looks as good and has held up
well over a year.....

a lot of other people have similar experience......
