Hello,

First time posting in a forum but i'm pretty desperate.

I'm using an outdated mid-2011 iMac 27". For music composition I need an external SSD to store my software instruments, allowing for quick writing into my DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). I've purchased the Seagate 1TB SSD from Amazon, seeing that there are two types of connectivity: USB-C and USB 3.0. I naively thought "Brilliant, I'll plug that in my usb port and enjoy the fast speeds everyone talks about".

Lo and behold I setup my drive go to copy a large instrument over and BAM...a very mediocre copy speed around 20mb/s.

As I cannot plug the SSD into a USB-C slot, could I...

Would this improve my speed? Or am I fighting a losing battle?

I greatly appreciate any feedback on this!

Joe
