Can I crossfire a r9 390 with a r9 380?

Well... I have a Shappire Nitro r9 380 4GB and I am looking forward to a Shappire Nitro r9 390 8GB and I was thinking if I could pair up the two

No, you can only crossfire cards of the same model / specs.

Games like 'Civ: Beyond Earth' - when played under crossfire - are now splitting the screen into separate rendering pieces using AMD Mantle, and what with AMD APU's already being able to play nice with multiple different GPUs, AMD might someday support different GPUs working together in crossfire. Knowing AMD though, such an implementation would be buggy as hell on the drivers end.
