I'm planning to build a gaming desktop with this specs:

CPU: AMD A10-7850k
MoBo: MSI A88X-G45 GAMING
GPU: SAPPHIRE R9 280X OC 3GB DDR5 TRI-X
RAM : 4GB P1333 x4pcs
Cooler: Cooler Master V8 GTS

My friend told me that the CPU and the GPU can be crossfired, but based from the forums/threads that i had read, the A10-7850k can only be crossfired on DDR3. And the CPU should be replaced with the FX like FX-8350.

So, can i crossfire with this specs or not?If not, what should i change in my build so i can play 1080p games in med/high/ultra settings?

BTW: I don't know much in computer hardwares, expect a lot of follow up questions.

TIA

You have a lot of misconceptions...

1st. The A10-7850K and Athlon X4 860K use the FM2+ platform and socket. The FX-8350 uses the AM3+ platform/socket. Apples and oranges. Yes, the AM3+ platform will accept faster CPUs than the FM2+ platform. But generally cost more.

Next. Again, you CANNOT Crossfire any of those cards with the APUs that run on the FM2+ socket. (actually it is called Dual Graphics Mode; similar to CF) The only card that will work in DG Mode with the A10-7850K is the R7-250. As I said above, the gfx card has to have the same GPU as the APU. http://www.cpu-world.com/info/AMD/Recommended_graphics_cards_for_AMD_dual-graphics.html

Next. if you stay with the FM2+ platform, the fastest combination you can use is the...
Absolutely not. Dual Graphics Mode requires that the card's GPU be the same as the on-die iGPU of the A10. But you CAN use the R9-280X as a discrete card and ignore the A10's iGPU. However, the R9-280X is a bit much for the APU to keep up with. You will be paying for graphics power you won't be able to use. CPU bottleneck, in other words. Drop back to the R9-280 or the GTX 260 for a better balanced system.

And since you are not going to be using the integrated video once you have a new discrete card, you could save a bit of money and heat and get the Athlon x4 860K instead. it is the same CPU as the A10-7850K but w/o the iGPU.

Btw, you can easily use faster RAM with either of those processors. 1333MHz is a bit slow today. They work well with up to 2133MHz memory.

So i should replace A10-7850 with Athlon x4 860k?Isn't FX-8350 much better? So that my set up will be available for future upgrades (i.e gpu upgrade)?

Which is better in gaming performance?Ahtlon x4 860k and R9-280X or A10-7850K crossfired with Sapphire R9-280 or can I crossfire MSI r9 290 with A10-7850k instead of sapphire R9-280?

Thanks again in advance

The R9-280X and R9-290 would be bottlenecked by the Athlon. They will work fine, but you will have paid for performance you can't use.

Finally. If you go with the AM3+ platform and the FX-8350, you can use any of those cards. The FX 8350 won't bottleneck the R9-280x or R9-290.
