No you can't. You can create crossfire of same models i.e CF of 2 HD 7970 or CF of 2 R9 280x. 850W is more than sufficient for your cross fire needs.

Yes they do crossfire, because the 7970 is able to support direct X 11.2.
It needs an up dated Ati driver to do so.

The Tahiti supports CGN, But programmers have not started using it in games yet.
Crysis 3 crossfires fine.

The limiting factor is the generation. or more of the case what each card is capable of in DX. features also. Hardware side.


But it will depend on how well each game is coded and made in some cases.
Some games see a small percent of frame rate improvement at higher resolutions, and other can see up to 35, 40 %

You're talking about CF thru software. I assume?

Yes of course because a 280x does not have a CF bridge its internal. It links through the Pci-e bus now.

But the cards still CF.

Here Its not April the first yet, honest it does work because a 7970 as i said is basically a 280X card with added features.

Ok so it is clear that both cards can be crossfired based on same core. But in the picture, they have created the CF using bridge whereas you've mentioned it to be based on PCIe whereas they did not mention it. I wanted to read more on this PCIe based CF
