Should I buy RX580 4gb/8gb. I want to play games at 2/4k in future. Are RX580 any good for 4k gaming. I don't have budget for GTX 1070.

yes u can, although it will be pretty low (20 fps maybe?) u might need to tweak some settings to get more fps
this will happen because RX 580 wasn't meant for 4k gaming, it was meant for 1080p gaming
while 1070 will perform better, since it was designed for 1440p, the one that fits for 4k gaming are 1080 and 1080 TI

In some countries right now the Rx 580 is out of stock everywhere (cryptocurrency miners have bought them by the dozen). In this case a 1060 6gb would be just as good if not better.

the thing is, he already said that he can't afford 1070
also, 20 fps is still playable actually, i usually play payday 2 on 25 fps average (before upgrading to 1050 TI), and im doin fine
fps under 20 is nightmare though

personally though, i rather suggest u hold back your intention on playing with 4k res and stick with 1080p and 1440p until u have enough money to upgrade to a better GPU 😀

Yes, but honestly you're still better off playing at a lower resolution

As someone who had a RX 480 before I sold it.
Yes you can game at 4k, but you will need to tweak a lot of settings, turn off AA (its useless on a 4k monitor, everything looks sharp already, don't need more AA) that right there will give a nice boost to fps. Lower DOF, turn off or lower other "heavy" effect settings.
But, you're still only going to see like 5-30fps.
but this vastly depends on the game. (Crysis 3 at 4k? Hell nah, Overwatch? yes but still <40fps)

With the RX 580, I only see you getting a couple percent increase in performance, if you cant get it at MSRP, I don't think you should look to waste money on it. Look for a second RX 480 if you can. <<<< Get RX 480 now, and then grab another when you can save up for it? that's what I did, sadly grabbed the second RX 480 like a month before they release/announced the RX 580 line.
I had RX 480 in CF for a long time. 60fps smooth 4K gaming. (except heavy, intense games like Crysis 3)

Think the Main question was can RX580 do 4k.
OP did ask Should I buy 480 but the topic title was different.

I dont think 480/580 are available to purchase at the moment with the whole Ethereum rush, but they'll come back in stock eventually.

RX480 with 580 bios here, GTA 5 on ultra setttings + 4k res gives me stable 40fps in most areas, and 60fps in places without cars etc. It's a great GPU. Also I have the 8GB model. You can also really easily OC it and get maybe even 50fps stable. On Asus website this GPU is advertised as 4k Gaming GPU, and it works great with 4k games. Even the heavy ones. Don't listen to nGreedia fanboys. I used many Nvidia cards and couple of AMDs and I can say that Nvidia is great, but when it comes to price/performance, AMD kills it. If in Your country 1070 costs less or same as RX480/580 then go for 1070, but if it costs more then get RX480/580 and You won't be dissapointed.

here's a way to start a war, flaming XD

Depends on what games you play. Propably will run many games at acceptable framerates if you don't use Ultra settings or much AA. This is just my opinion but you don't really need more than FXAA at 4K that you won't see much jaggies.

So in ONE game you are able to get 40fps in 4k? That is not acceptable frame rates for most people. If you cannot get at least 60fps on ultra settings then why bother? Your lame attempt at giving an insult to those that prefer to have the best, and right now that is the nVidia 1080ti, (please note the spelling here), is just pathetic. Your argument using price to performance is what people use to justifying their purchase of 2nd or 3rd rate product just based on price and not the best performance.

This may come as a shock to you but there are many out there that will pay the price to have the best regardless of the name on the box. Right now today AMD has nothing to compete with the 1080ti in pure performance. The RX580 is a good card for 2K use but it is not a good card for 4K.

Here is a piece of advise, grow up and act like an adult and stop trying to berate those who do not make purchase decisions as you do.
(/rant mode off)

he's right, i mean, why stick with the mid-end GPU when they had the capability to buy something beyond it. AMD's product right now are only at the low & mid level, they don't have a contender for nVidia yet, which is why for now nVidia still hold the high level market (with GTX 1070, 1080, 1080ti, and Titan) but perhaps Vega is the AMD's game changer, who knows? 😀

PS: when giving someone info, don't take sides too much like that please, we're here to give them solution from many perspective, instead of holding 1 thought while insulting the other

It's a 1080p or 1440p card. Unless you want to game at around 30fps. Which is ok for console gamers, but I personally cannot stand 30 fps.

Two in Crossfire are perfect for 4K Ultra at around 60 fps or more. Though that's not necessarily something you should go for, unless the games you play support Crossfire.

A single card would need settings turned down 'a lot' to hit 60 fps consistently. Though having said, that it depends on the game ofc.

I am using the rx 580 8gb. I am able to get 4k at 40 to 50fps in gears4 and forza horizon. This is without sacrificing much on my settings, mainly just the anti aliasing. These settings don't seem to make much difference at 4k as mentioned earlier. Just my noob opinion tho. I do notice a difference in the lower fps with gears, but the 4k seems worth it.

Lmao. You want me to act like an adult but You can't act like one by Yourself. And if You would be an adult then You would know that buying a GPU that gets 20-30 more fps for 500USD more is just not worth it. And how 40-50fps is not acceptable? Maybe in like 10 years when You finally will turn 18. You will start to value money. And btw. I paid around 300 USD for my RX480/580 and it gives me stable 50-55 fps in 4K Ultra in all games? With 9Ghz OC. You can obviously get 1070 for $600 and get same results out of the box but it's not worth paying $300 more. And OP asked if it's a good GPU for 4K gaming and not if AMD has 1080 equivalent.
