Which serial numbers - motherboard, graphics, disks. Windows activation keys?
Most hard drives can report their serial number using that hard drive' maintenance utilities (e.g. for Seagate - SeaTools).
I just want the serial numbers. If someone were to steal my pc and try to sell it I have the serial numbers. I live in a ghettoish neighborhood and am worried
If they try sell it on eBay, pawn shop or anywhere. They have to run the serial numbers before the store takes it. If I have the serial numbers and report it. The serial number will come up as being on a stolen item
If they're a competent police department they might ask you for the serial numbers, but that probably wont' do anything. If you have a pre-built PC from Dell, Lenovo, etc the serial number will be on the back of your case, but if it's a self built PC you'll have to take parts out to determine their serial numbers.
Filing a police report bro. the ask for the serial numbers
And if I am eBay or a pawn shop, do you think I will call every police station in every town around me to check whether the item offered for sale is not reported stolen?
What I want to say is that having these numbers won't stop the crook to sell them on eBay or flee market. They will be useful only if the crook gets busted, and he/she still has your stuff, and the police a willing to find our whether anything has been reported stolen in last weeks.
