Question Can I fit a full height graphics card inside my desktop DVD drive

I have a sff desktop and my graphics card does not have enough space to be placed on my pcie x 16 slot so I am thinking if using a pcie extension cable to connect my graphics card which will be placed in the optical drive to my motherboard. Is this possible?

I strongly do not recommend this even if it was possible. the easiest solution is to get a new case which is bigger than the old one.

Your GPU touching another piece of metal can really mess things up, and it would be hard to secure it in its place.

Am curious. What does that means? U gonna do it, not?

What comes to my mind is, people who's thinking of doing this knows to mount the board properly, obviously electronics should not touch other metal parts, needs ventilation blah-blah. U probably will have to fashion/fabricate your own bracket... got mechanical skills? Tools? Basically we are talking custom case modding.

I was thinking of modding a caddy to mount it to the optical drive but maybe I'll just open the side of my case to fit my gpu inside

So pcie riser cables shouldn't be used?

I don't know, as I have never been in a situation that I would be tempted to use one, and I really don't know the distances involved, or the specific noise environment it's in; but, from a best practices standpoint, I would look for a way to avoid it because of the factors I mentioned.
