So i been planning on building a new PC. My main plan is to get an Intel Core i5-9600k and a Asus Strix B360-I, but in Pcpartpicker it says " Some Intel B360 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Coffee Lake Refresh CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions." my friend told me that I can simply update the BIOS with a flash drive and no CPU. I just wanted to get confirmation that this process works?

Most motherboards need a cpu compatible with the currently installed BIOS. There are a few motherboards that don’t need a cpu installed but I believe they are only high end ‘Z’ motherboards and not sure I have even seen one in the 300 series.

Also why the k cpu on a B motherboard? Ok it’s clocked slightly faster but you miss out on the main overclocking features.
