Can I get 2 taskbars on dual monitor extended display?

I'm running dual monitors in extended mode and I'd like to have a somewhat
independent taskbar on each of them. I can move the taskbar back and forth
between the 2 monitors, but not stretch it across both or have one on each.
I'm more or less wanting to get a taskbar full of quicklaunch buttons on one
monitor and a taskbar of running program icons on the other.

I haven't been able to find anything on this. Is there a way I can do it
within WinXP Home?

There's no way to do that with native XP support at all. There *might* be
some 3rd party tools that can do such but I don't know what they would be.

Yes and no. There's no way to do exactly what you ask, however
you can drag the quick launch bar off the taskbar and onto the
second monitor. That may meet your needs.

Interesting question and I think the answer, as Walter points out, lies in
what is supported by the drivers you're using.

Using two monitors on an ATI dualhead card and running the most recent
drivers, I just dragged/dropped the Quick Launch toolbar to the bottom edge
of the second monitor. At first I got a title bar but then moved this
closer to the monitor edge and got the toolbar that extends the entire
width of the second monitor. Tried a few restarts to be sure the
positioning held and was successful.

I've used Matrox and ATI dualhead cards for a while. As different driver
versions come and go, I've seen driver options vary. The extended taskbar
has at times been the only option. At other times it is offered as an
alternative to a single screen taskbar.

Some of the supplemental software/control panels for the display adapter
include the ability to create/save workspaces that span one or two
monitors. If available to you, that may be another way to get something
setup to your liking.

Thanks for the ideas folks. I hate to admit it but I didn't even know you
could pull the quicklaunch menu completely out of the taskbar, took me a few
tries to get it. That certainly is a cost free uncomplicated option.

(I try not to keep tacking little system enhancer software on all over the
place, seems like eventually things start getting tangled up with each other
- but that doesn't necessarily mean I won't.)

At least now I can quit reading through the knowledge base. Thanks again.

I answered your question correctly since you ask for 2 TASKBARS in the
subject of the post.

But you actually wanted 1 taskbar and one toolbar. That can be done without
a third party application.

Kenny we were on the same page the first time. What I'd REALLY like is 2
taskbars. I'd remarked in the text that primarily ("more or less") I was
wanting to use the 2nd one for extra quicklaunch room which is where the
quicklaunch tips came from, and those were helpful as well as they provided a
helpful option.

I did have a look at the ultramon software you referred to and it looks
intriquing too.

To be clear, I'm quite happy with the way everybody responded, including
you. I now know that XP won't let me create a second taskbar, which is
exactly what I would do if it were possible, and I have some options to work
around it. So again, thanks!

Why don't you just create a new toolbar and put the apps you want on it.
Then drag that toolbar off the taskbar and put it at the bottom of the 2nd
display?

Btw, UltraMon gives you all the mentioned options, your preference which you
use. Specifically, if what you want is two separate taskbars, each on it's
own display and each dynamically only showing the apps open on that display,
UltraMon's the way to go.

Tried to drag the quick launch bar over, but it wouldn't do it. I'm running XP Pro SP3 with an ATI Radeon HD3450..........
 


We are planning to add the support of Taskbar toolbars (such as Quick Launch, Desktop, etc.) on secondary taskbars in the near future versions of Actual Window Manager.
 


I have actual windows manager 6.0 (trial) installed on my pc, when i try to connect to the net with a vadafone dongle, the program keeps saying, it has encountered an error and needs to close, when i exit actual windows manager, then i can connect to the internet.

anyone else had this problem
 
I installed ultramon on my PC, triple monitor set-up, XP home. Seem to work ok but then I started having belkin wi-fi start-up problems, so removed it, wi-fi now ok.


Ultramon seems expensive for what it is ($40).

What happens if you have Windows 7?? As they have removed the Quick Launch Toolbar and instead you 'pin' icons to the taskbar. Is there anyway simple way I can either extend my taskbar across both screens or move a section of it just so that I have a bit more room on my taskbar!! Please help!!
