The HP for home mulimedia use is fine. I have gamed on it for 3 years. I am going to upgrade my video to a 3870 as soon as they are in stock. I plan on building a new game pc in a couple of months. But, for now what can i do to get more out of my system. I am playing COD4 now. I am getting 40FPS at low and 90+ at its best. sometimes it drops to high 30s with a lot of explosions. 1024x768 AAx2, everything else on low or off.

Video: I installed Ntune, but unintstalled it after i read some reviews. I then installed Riva, but dont really understand what i am doing and i didnt get that much out of it. I didnt notice much of an increase in FPS, maybe even a drop. could i have pushed it to much. I seemed stable.

CPU: any ideas? utilities, speeds, clock, anything. My bios doesn't seem to allow any CPU changes.

Your bios wont allow CPU changes unless your either pull some nice OEM hacks or, somebody has wrote a BIOS targeted for HP machines or, you write your own, and/or Asus has another bios you can use for that machine. either of those sounds unlikely.

Riva tuner itself doesn't do anything unless otherwise indicated by the end user. - its not an install and it will auto tweak like Ntune. As for your CPU; well, how do you like it? Original recipe or extra crispy? Because pretty much the temps your going to get on shady OEM CPU cooling with a Prescott chip will be high enough to cook most poultry.

In short, with that RAM and cooling, your going nowhere fast. - and I'd be suprised if you proved me wrong.

gotya. I was afraid of that. Thanks for the wake up call.

I found a new bios from HP that now has an advanced bios access feature. I will install this new bios and see how advanced it is.

one more thing. I had the wrong RAM listed above. It is pc-5400.

Its my experience that PNY DDR sucked pretty bad. DDR2 was a different story; regardless - get that bios in then you can begin to tinker.
