However, just adding more RAM to your existing 8GB may or may not work. Mixing RAM sticks is always a crapshoot.

Thanks for the answers, I know on the specs it says ddr3 only buy didn't know if that changes with firmware updates.
And I wasn't going to add it to my existing RAM, I s going to replace it. I will just get ddr3 that's no problem.

Firmware does not change that. The sticks are physically different. The alignment slot is in a different place, to prevent someone from plugging the wrong RAM in.
It actually would not fit.
