Question Can I go to 1080p on a 1440p without having to stretch the resolution?

Building a PC that is supposedly able to handle 1440p in a bunch of singleplayer games. I'm not too worried about getting 60fps to 80fps in singleplayer games, but I do play a lot of multiplayer games where this resolution would hurt my FPS in bigger FPS games like warzone or pubg.

I would like to lower the resolution to 1080p so I can at least stay above 144hz in these games, but I also read that changes the render resolution in these games would give you the same effect of lower the textures to 1080p without having to lower your native resolution. I'm not sure if this is the effect it would have or not.

What size screen would 1080p be, typical 24"? If 27" fits, is a nice size for 1440p and 1440p isn't all that much more demanding really. Additionally, image enhancers ie anti aliasing isn't necessary at 1440p 27" too so that'll help elevate frames.

Not all 1440p monitors scale 1080p badly. My old XB270HU native 1440p can display 1080p fine albeit with AA off there wasn't a need to drop resolution, this was with a 1080Ti. Games often have render scaling so you'd use that instead if needed to.

Monitors are lengthy investment, id encourage doing more research and try 1440p resolution using dsr or Amd equivalent to see how it performs, with AA off.
