Can i have a 2 4gb rab and have 2 8gb on a motherboard

If your mobo supports 16GB, maybe. Look up the motherboard specs in your manual or on the manufacture's website for specifics. Sometimes they will even list known-compatible memory model numbers from various vendors in the manual.

^^^ Forget that. Why waste the 4GB modules if your MB can only support 16GB of ram. There's the OS limit too. If you're running Win 8, you're fine, but Win 7 Home Premium only supports 16GB of ram.

Your board handles up to 32GB, the link lists it will accept up to DDR3-1600 without overclock.

As ss202sl points out, only install what your OS can use, anything else is a waste.

If it's Win 8 32-bit , you'd only be able to use 4GB. Win 8 64-bit supports more memory than your board can, so 16GB is fine.

Can nobody read? He has 2 4GB(8GB total) and 2 8GB(total 16GB) for a grand total of 24GB of RAM. If you're running any version of Win 8 64-bit(Which I assume you are because I can read that you currently have 2 4GB sticks for 8GB total). You're fine with 24GB.

That's all if the sticks will play together, mixing DRAM can be and often is problematic, even with identical sets, mixing 4GB sticks with 8GB sticks can be even more problematic
