[SOLVED] Can I install a 1.5V DDR3 with my existing integrated DDR3 RAM?

Hello there, I'm running a Sony Vaio laptop with an existing integrated DDR3 RAM with one slot open which I am planning to fill. I tried using CPU-Z but it seems it cannot detect my integrated RAM to see its voltage, my question is, can I insert a a spare DDR3 RAM with 1.5V without frying it?

Thanks in advance.

What model Sony Vaio is it?

In Cpuz, did you check SPD tab and go through the slots to see if it picks it up?

If laptop uses DDR3L 1.35v then that's what needs to be used. If laptop uses 1.5v ram, 1.35v DDR3L ram can run at 1.5v. Just not the other way around.

The SPD was all blank when my laptop was just running the integrated RAM, then I installed this 1.5 V RAM, it shows SPD for just this newly installed RAM, but it is still blank for the other slot

My laptop model is SVS13112EGB.

I see so it's not backward compatible, so does that mean if my laptop runs on an integrated DDR3 RAM (which it is, as it says DDR3 on task manager) does that mean I have no problem in running a 1.5V new slot RAM? Or does DDR3 RAM could come in 1.35V as well?

Solution
Go to Crucial.com and use thier app to determine the proper ram you can use for your model. Problem solved

Is this your laptop? It uses DDR3L ram.

Processor's memory controller supports both 1.35v and 1.5v. DDR3/L/-RS 1333/1600. It should be fine if it's running.

See if you can get more info about your ram with Hwinfo64.
Wow, yes that's exactly it. I see, so there should be no problem then.

Tried to use Hwinfo64, still could not read my integrated RAM though, looks like no software can, including Aida64 and XTU.

But anyway, thanks a lot.

Your welcome. It is odd diagnostic programs can't identify the embedded memory module, that is quite strange. Anyway, there shouldn't be any issues. If laptop motherboard had an issue with the 1.5v stick, it would have prevented boot.
