Can i install an external gpu on lenovo y50-70. Also is it worth is? And do i always need a PSU

Even a laptop with lighting it has to be over the PCI-E bus or it will be extremely slow. Do a little research into your laptop and find out if it has Thunderbolt 3 over PCI-E, then we'll talk GPU enclosures.

it does. But how will i mount it??? Youtube vids say through the wlan card But if i connect a cable there my laptop doesnt have an entry exept under the laptop. If you mean a full gpu box then no, i mean an adapter that makes a normal gpu into an external

how do i check that???

eGPU is not just plug and play.
Time for some research:

Does your laptop have a relevant TB 3 PCIe port? Time to locate a service manual for it and find out.

If you're going to use the wifi slot, you WILL have to get out the dremel and cut holes in the case.

Which I don't recommend, in the end it will be a lot nicer and maybe cheaper to just get a GPU enclosure and get what ever GPU you want and slap it in, Thunderbolt 3 over PCI-E is the fastest.

the thing is i we dont have those external gpu boxes or whatever
if you can find any for a 1050ti that whould be great

Do you have a graphics card already? I found a great deal on a 1070 enclosure with a 1070 for the price or cheaper than most 1070's. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125990&cm_re=external_graphics_card-_-14-125-990-_-Product
if you already have a GPU the best I could find is this, its not an enclosure and will have to go through your wlan card port, I couldn't find an enclosure for a GPU, the most I could find cost almost as much as the 1070 enclosure but without a GPU, the only ones I could find empty for cheap were for just PCI-E SSD's. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125990&cm_re=external_graphics_card-_-14-125-990-_-Product

if you can get me a 1050ti enclosure. THAT WHOULD BE AWESOME. But i cant put it through the pci e port (the wifi port, thats what i call it lol) cuz its on the back of my laptop and i have to drill and shiz just ugh.

If you can find something like the razor core Bcuz that thing connects with a usb 3.0
If you can find something that connects with usb 3 and thats not * 400USD that suits a 1050ti.
That whould be awesome.
Just try not to brake the 200USD mark xd

That's gonna be hard to do, especially over USB 3 since Thunderbolt 3 is much much faster, and an empty enclosure for a GPU is gonna be over 200 as long as you don't wanna get jenky.

Yeah would be interesting, just don't expect to get the full experience of a 1050 ti, since its over a cable and not plugged directly into the motherboard its going to be slower, as already tested several times on Youtube, expect it to perform like a 1040, if that makes sense.

What people don't realize is that when plugging an eGPU in over USB or Type c the data it sends out has to travel to the CPU, the way it does that is through the southbridge (normally) which is very slow, so you want to use a port that's connected over the PCI-E bus, much much faster. Even then its like running a GPU in a 1x slot on a motherboard, not the best since those cables can't physically care more data.

well i wanna get that enclosure bcuz i have a y50-70 which has a pretty good cpu and not bad ram. But i fcked up the main gpu, the 860M and now im stuck with an intel hd4600. And im planning to get a pc for the long run, so if i get the gpu now, ill be able to atleast play something while i save up to a pc

your taking that approach a bit backwards lol, most people will build a PC and not get a GPU and use integrated graphics for a bit until they can find a GPU at a good price.

well what can i fcking play on an intel 4600. Ive been stuck with this * intel graphics for 5months almost 6
I thiink i neeeeeeeed a fcking relief

I'm not saying your approach is bad, just different. I get what you mean I game on integrated graphics too. Here's the difference, ive been gaming on integrated graphics my whole life

hah yeah. ive been used to my nvidia gpu and used to playing high end games. But now its just weird not having a "decent" gpu. And i cant wait anymore man, i just want to finish this as quick as possible 😀

also what are your thoughts on the new 2000 series gtx and also will the price of the 1080 go down, so i go with a 1080? Or whould it stay the same. Also what whould it do the 1050ti's price?

I get your pain, i've been saving for a PC for years and with the prices of GPU's rn I can't afford to build one. I believe the new 2000 series cards are based on Volta right? They should be pretty fast, however I don't think the prices for the 1080 will gown down. Well, MSRP will go down but since the prices are double and in some cases almost tripple MSRP because of mining, so the prices may drop but not much over 20 dollars i'd say. The 1050 Ti would probably drop a bit since its a fairly low end card being at the other end of the scale from the 1070's and 1080, the cards more people use to mine like RX 480 RX 580 1070 1070 ti 1080 and 1080 ti wont go down much because people still want them, but the price for the new cards will skyrocket also.

Alright, also any recommendations for a gpu thats under 200bucks? And thats better then a 1050ti?
