can i install anything? computer says no

this happens after the 'run/cancel' security prompt when trying to install something:

tried with various programs, nothing worked.

system: optiplex 760, core 2 duo E8400, 4gb 800mhz ddr2. win 7x64.

managed to install updates, antivirus, firewall, drivers etc, then i tried to install java and that is when the problem started.

so, erm, help? and thanks in advance 😀

Either you don't have permissions or the windows installer is messed up.

Otherwise you will have to do a repair install of windows

Then it sounds like the installer is not a valid windows installer file or corrupted. What is the exact name of the file including the extension?

("should made a disc image" thankyou, captain hindsight...) if not a reinstall solves everything.

nope. tried the java stub again, it downloaded the installer package, and then the same error message.

time for a fresh install, methinks.
