Can I install my windows 10 upgrade to a partition?

Apparently I have till the 29th for the free upgrade from windows 7 which i am using.
I wanted to install this upgrade to a small partition on my SSD/HDD instead of upgrading my entire system. I need to keep this OS.

Is this doable with the upgrade scheme? Or am i forced to upgrade from 7 to 10?

goal is to dual boot.

You need to update your in place installed Windows 7, you cannot dual boot your old Windows 7 and your free Win 10 upgrade.

You can install the free upgrade in a new partition, but it will invalidate the license for Windows 7 anyway.
