Here are the specs for the motherboard, https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00257657#AbT0.

The computer is a SR1511NX-B.

Can I install a SSD on this machine? If so, which one should I get?

It has 2 SATA connectors (supports a total of 2 drives, 1 serial ATA-150 disk drive on each connector).

I would like to install Linux Mint 19 xfce onto a disk drive of some type on this machine. If I cannot install a SSD, which hard drive should I buy?

Solution
It might work. But that board is using the original SATA specification of 1.5gb/sec. Right now most boards use SATA III which using 6gb/sec. It might work, but if it does, it will not run very fast as SATA SSDs are limited at even 6gb/sec. I would look at a 7200rpm HDD. Something cheap. HDD have changed very little over the years.

Thanks for the response. If I got a SATA II drive would it would be backwards compatible to SATA I? Also, would I need to install drivers of some sort? Is SATA I faster than 7200RPM hard drive?
