Can I install Windows 8.1 Graphics card drivers on Windows 10?

I was checking if my devices have drivers for Windows 10. They all have Windows 10 drivers except for my Nvidia Quadro FX 580. On the Nvidia driver page they have drivers up to Windows 8.1. Can I use the drivers from Windows 8.1 on Windows 10 or should I wait a few months before they release them?

Yes, the windows 10 driver structure is very similar to the windows 8.1 ones. You should be able to install without a problem.

I had to go on the Asus site and get a dedicated win 10 driver

Well that's strange because I have used windows 8.1 drivers for windows 10.

In the older versions of Windows 10 it was similar to 8.1 however the final build has a big change to the WDDM and kernel that makes it hard to use older OS drivers on a newer OS.

It is kind of hit and miss.

I know when I tried it, I got an error device can not start. I did it by mistake because I had download the other version for another system and my shared download folder means I saw Nvidia driver version xxx.xx and said yeah lets install this.

I have read of some users getting Windows 8.1 drivers to work. My sound drivers are for 8.1, but by video card was a big no go.

Yeah I guess it depends on the hat die vices the drivers are installed for.

Of all things I saw a user on here who got drivers to work for a 6200 turbo cache. That was a surprise with the cards age. Even Windows update would not get that thing going.
