Can i install windows on an SSD which i just installed in place of an optical drive ?

Of course. The physical location of a drive means absolutely nothing.

let me ask you this. can you copy huge amounts of data to it very fast from the HDD right now? if not, no, it's not even SATA3, it's old SATA in most cases. Not worth it. My notebook couldn't do it. It would lock up copying. I tried with an SSD, had to open the notebook and replace the HDD with the SDD and put the optical drive back in place. If it runs at all, don't be surprised if it is horribly slow

Both the ports are SATA III 6 Gb/s
