can i install windows on local disk A?

hi, i used ease use partition to name an unallocated space to A:. the disk A comes before local disk C. I want to install windows on A and leave c for just as we use D for. any help?
 
Solution
You should always backup your important data just to be on the safe side. If your important files are on a separate partition e.g. D:, E:, F:, etc. it should be intact as long as you don't delete or reformat the partition from the custom options of the installation wizard. What version of Windows are you talking about? Basically you should be able to use a repair Windows/installation option, if there's something wrong with the currently installed OS.

The short answer is - no. Installing Windows on a drive will automatically allocate the partition with the C: letter. The letters A and B should not be used, they are reserved for floppy disk drives. Even though this is obsolete nowadays, the OS has retained this "feature". So you're free to use all the letters after A and B.

ok, and if I install the os on C will it format the whole drive or I will have the data?
