you would have to wipe the hard drive then do a fresh install, there is no easier way that I know to do this. all you need is the cd and key. But one question, why xp?

It's not my laptop, but someone else's. As far as I've gathered they're wanting to change it to XP because their programs for music and recording aren't supported by Windows 8, and music software can be more expensive than this laptop. The sole reason they purchased this laptop was to use it for recording/music. Plus like so many people I know, they don't enjoy Windows 8, haha. The laptop won't be connecting to the internet, so I can download the drivers onto a USB drive. I guess that's about it?
Wow. 1) that is a REALLY crappy laptop. 2) You can always try installing windows 7. Most of the Windows 8 drivers should work. And if they are having issues with older programs maybe install it as 32 bit since 64 bit is what mostly kills old programs not windows 7 itself.
If he/she wants to install xp let them, we should let him/her make their own choices. The wiping then fresh install is the best way to go but you will have to find all the drivers again.
