Can i just buy a better cpu for my computer or do i need a new mother board?

My Desktop PC specs are:
GPU: EVGA Nvidia Geforce 750 Ti (2GB DDR3)
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @2.40GHz
RAM: 10GB DDR3 (8Gb DDR3 + 2Gb Graphics card
OS: windows 7 Pro 64Bit

You haven't listed the motherboard model. We need that to tell you what your best option is.

Looking at it being a lga 775 with a QUAD already there is not really any viable options without going modern and upgrade both board and CPU.

Also, FYI, your GPU memory (VRAM) is not the same as your System memory (RAM).
You can't combine them for any purpose, you only have 8GBs of ram.
