Can i just buy a i5 2400 processor without cpu cooler fan because i m having cpu cooler fan already with i3 540?

I want to buy a i5 2400 but without cpu cooler fan because my old i3 540 is having cpu cooler fan so is it necessary to buy the cpu cooler fan again or can i simply buy the chip?

What I would do.....is buy the processor and try it out with your current cooler.

I would run a demanding application (like a game that uses the processor a lot) and I would look at my processor temperature.

If it is good, I would leave the cooler alone.

Theoretically it should be fine, just be sure to clean the old thermal paste off the cooler and apply new paste.
