Can i just buy a key? (Windows 8.1 pro Build 9600)

I was wondering if I could buy a windows 8.1 Pro Key online and have no issues with it.

bottom right corner says "Windows 8.1 Pro Build 9600" So if i just bought a key from a online store (Windows 8.1 pro Key)and enter it in the "Activate Key" area would it work? or do i have to do some download <<edited for content by moderator>>? and will i lose all my files?
