[SOLVED] Can I just install a m.2 drive with no other changes?

Does your MB support M.2? Make sure its M.2 and not NVME...

You'll have to clone the SSD to the M.2 or install windows freshly onto the M.2.

I have a a320m pro m2 v2 motherboard, windows is downloaded on my sata, and the m.2 is a SAMSUNG 970 EVO

I would put windows on the M.2 as it has much faster R/W speeds.

If you aren't going to put windows on it you'll just have to initialize and partition the drive in Disk Management.

Some motherboards you have to enable the M.2 in the BIOS.

If it does appear as just another drive letter, open up Disk Management.
You may have to Initialize, New Simple Volume, Format, and give it a drive letter.
