Hey guys.
I am currently using an i5 4690k and have just had an i7 4790k arrive. Am I okay to just swap out the cpu on my msi z97 pc mate? As they're identical sockets.
Many thanks
Gannicius

Thank you very much, I'll swap them out right now. If I get any posting problems should I start a new thread?

Before you do it check the manufacturers list of compatible CPU's, it's actually not uncommon at all for some motherboard to need a bios update depending on when you got it. My current one for example had a 4770k and in order for me to install a 4790k I had to flash the bios. Better to check the instructions from the manufacturer instead of asking people you don't know, it's your gear after all so you care much more than anyone else.

Your upgrade from a 4770k (intended to be on Z87) to a 4790k (Z97) requires a BIOS update.
He is going devils canyon to devils canyon (Z97 to Z97). No need for a BIOS update.
