[SOLVED] Can I just unplug my Hard drive and use it's wires for the ssd?

I see videos of people upgrading to a ssd, but they always buy new wires and leave the hard drive in, still plugged in. If I don't want my hard drive anymore, can i just use the wires it comes with to plug in the power and data on my ssd?
