Can I leave a 2.5" Mechanical HDD lying down unsecured inside my case?

I ran out of drive bays, so I simply put a drive I just installed on the floor of my case. Might this cause any problems?

Depending on how much room you have on the bottom of the case, if there is a small hole you can ether leave dive flat or stand it up on edge and screw a screw through the bottom of the case into the drive holding it in place.

heres a picture of one of my older computers that i mounted 2 80GB SSD and 2 750 WD 2.5 drives to the motherboard tray right next to the 24 pin

Yes, that build ran 3 different loops. 1 for the motherboard, cpu, and then both gpus. Had some fantastic number come out of that build. i7 950 @ 4.9Ghz and the two 580's at just over 1000Mhz, think they ended right around 1002 or 1003Mhz.

no worries about water or spill or steam getting out from the tube in case of aging tube??

I use tygon 3603 tube for all my build which is a Laboratory and Vacuum Tubing. I normally will change out a build or parts within a year or 2 so the tubing will ether get changed or fully replaced. Custom loops also need to be maintained by cleaning them once a year.

As for coolant i use distilled water, what makes it conductive is the dust and what not that is on a part that will short it out. Distilled water by its self is not conductive. Spills, yeah sometimes it happens, but these are normally when your filling a loop or draining and the computer should be off. To bleed the system of air you actually unplug everything from the PSU and use a paperclip to jumper the PSU on and only run your pump. This will ensure that no component has current going through it so if there is a spill/leak nothing will get ruined.

If you have steam you're doing something way wrong and you most likely no longer have a working computer.
