say i have a 1080p monitor, and am playing a solid game, wanted to low my 1080 resolution to get more Frames, what happens to the picture quality at the game? Does it lose sharpness and detail?..would it still be playable?

Solution

Not a bad idea. Crysis 3 will not run too well on a 7850 if you are aiming for 60FPS, but lots of other games will be fine. (Lowering resolution should help a fair bit if you want to play it that way.)

If you aren't a clarity freak it should be fine. 1080p is basically the base that all people game on and lowering it would give more fps but lower the visuals. It shouldn't be a disadvantage as long as you aren't going lower than 720p.

What is your video card? I could see if it should be fine on 1080p or you should lower it.

it depends upon the user and the the display...........and yes it does reduce sharpness if you play games very close to the monitor .................i have played games like arkham city on 17in monitor 1280x1024 resolution and on 1080p 47in
tv and i did notice that it wasnt that sharp when i was 10cm close to the tv

i'm between HD 7850 and HD 7950 .. didn't decided yet because of the budget ..so i was thinking if i get the 7850 and playing game like Crysis 3 for example..i will prefer to low my resolution than lowering my Settings

so is it a bad idea getting 21.5 inch 1080p monitor with a card like 7850?

so what will you go for if you were me..having a non full HD monitor like 1600x900, or having a FULL HD with a mid-range card like HD 7850? and low your resolution if games were GPU intensive

7850 should be fine on 1080p but may struggle maxing graphics on a game like Crysis 3. HD 7950 should stomp all over that.

LOWERING YOUR RESOLUTION WHILE PLAYING CRYSIS 3 ON ULTRA REDUCES SHARPNESS BUT NOT THE DETAILS

BUT IF YOU RUN CRYSIS 3 ON LOWER SETTINGS WITHOUT CHANGING RESOLUTION THEN SHARPNESS IS THERE AT THE COST OF DETAIL...........

Yeah, the 7950 will get around 30 - 45 FPS in Crysis 3 @1080p.

900p will be just fine, whiteknights. As long as you play at your monitors native resolution your games should be nice and sharp. A 900p Monitor and 7850 are a nice match. You shouldn't have to much trouble playing most games at mid to high settings. If you can, try for the 7870 or 7950.

you mean the HD 7850* (not 7950) will get around 30-40 FPS in Crysis 3 at 1080p, right?..the thing is i want a graphic card for 3 years minimum, so if i can't go for 7950, then i won't go for the HD 7870 because the HD 7850 and 7870 won't run games for 3 years..but i guess the 7950 will do ..so getting the 7870 is the same of getting 7850

Nope. 7950 won't max Crysis 3 @ 1080p.
