Can I make my Laptop into an external monitor?

So i'm using a regular desktop, a computer i built and now I don't use my laptop anymore so I was wondering if there was any way to make the laptop an external monitor to my desktop?

Sell the laptop and buy a second monitor.

If your talking about free, then the only way is to take apart the laptop and get adapters for the monitor so you can manually plug the laptops monitor in.
