Can I max out the RAM in my laptop if there is already soldered RAM on the MOBO?

So my last thread will not let me select a best answer, however I have decided to go with AS5 thermal paste and while I'm in there throw some extra RAM in the laptop.

So here's the problem. I have the ASUS TUF Dash F15 FX516PR with 16GB of RAM, half of which comes Soldered to the motherboard. I was looking into RAM upgrades and was under the impression that I was limited to a single stick of 16GB due to the 8GB already attached to the MOBO, but according to Crucial's website they have a 32gb stick that is compatible with my laptop.

I'm just a little dumbfounded because I thought if there was already 8GB, and you add 32GB you would go over the system limit of 32 GB. That's how it works isn't it? Or can I use the 32GB stick?

Nevermind I found some G.Skillz Ripjaw for about $35 cheaper.

EDIT: Looks like I wont be needing the MX4 after all. Turns out the ASUS Armory Crate TURBO option is the culprit of my CPU temperature woes. I wasn't aware that it ran the CPU/GPU at higher clock speeds, I thought I only controlled fan speeds. I'll just be upgrading RAM in this case.

EDIT #2: After looking at RAM usage in my most demanding games I'm pretty sure the upgrade will be worth it. I'm looking at only having 1.7-1.8 GB left for use while gaming which isn't very much. This is with all sorts of background processes running including MSI Afterburner, HWINFO64 and Armory Crate, Sometimes Windows Media Player.
