I got a computer i bought a couple years ago and i am planning to upgrade from 8 to 16 GB of RAM. I currently have 2x Kingston Value DDR4 2133MHz 4GB memory sticks in there. Will it work if i add 2x Kingston Value DDR4 2400 Mhz to get 16 GB?

Solution

Maybe. RAM is sold in kits for a reason. In order to ensure compatibility a new 16GB should be purchased. Most of the time adding RAM with identical specs will work just fine. The other 5-10% won't work and we some of them here asking why. You take that a step further by introducing different speeds. If it does work the 2400MHz module will down-clock to 2133MHz. You can probably fix that in BIOS.
