Can I overclock a i7 930?

I'm looking to overclock my i7 930 higher to help boost my streaming capabilities and the rest of my computer is updated and nutty.

I'm a little confused. Is this CPU locked?

No, it isn't locked. Intel locked their CPUs beggining at Sandy Bridge, where you'd need a processor from the K serie.

Yes, it does, providing you have a decent CPU cooler.

Yes you can, I run mine at 3.6 Ghz. Some people claim they can hit 4 Ghz but I couldn't get near it while running safe temps.

look for a guide on how to safely overclock your cpu... then try. I think tomshardware has also prepared a guide on the same subject.
try overclocking in small intervals not suudenly to a higher value. Check the temperatures in between...

The first gen i7's are capable overclockers.

Try going to at least 3.3 or 3.4

And they get hot don't worry...
