I'm trying to build a computer for my brother on a strict 700 dollar budget. I want it to be severe overkill for him (he plays things like roblox, need for speed, and minecraft) so that if he decides to buy something new, he isn't let down by his computers performance.
I've found that this xeon x5650 has incredible performance for its price point ($40!) when overclocked past 3ghz. However overclocking motherboards are really expensive on the 1366 socket, averaging at about $250. I know if i don't buy an overclocking motherboard i won't get a 4.2ghz overclock or anything, but if i bought a cheap $60 1366 motherboard, could i get that chip to, say, 3.5 on air? I've never overclocked anything before, but it's my understanding that xeon chips are clocked a lot lower than they could be to provide stability since they're intended use is for servers.
Also, i intend on using the fury as the value of that card right now is absolutely unbeatable. But it runs really hot. Will this be a problem on a non gaming, non OC oriented board? Most of the sub $100 boards are server oriented.
