Generally, no. Xeon CPUs don't have unlocked multiplers and an HP workstation motherboard is not going to have BIOS options intended for overclocking.i want to overclock my processor so i an wondering if its possible

thank you do muchGenerally, no. Xeon CPUs don't have unlocked multiplers and an HP workstation motherboard is not going to have BIOS options intended for overclocking.
Ok, thank you so muchThe nice thing about the z600 though is that you can add a second processor and double the computing power. You can also upgrade all the way to a x5670/x5675:

Welcome! Enjoy it!Ok, thank you so much
You HAVE to be running Windows PRO for dual socket support. If you have Windows Home it won't work.Ok, thank you so much
Are you sure about this? I know after NT, dual socket support was pretty much native to the codebase. It was quad processor support that required certain versions from what I recall. You HAVE to be running Windows PRO for dual socket support. If you have Windows Home it won't work.
Wikipedia still says home is single socket -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_10_editions#Comparison_chartAre you sure about this? I know after NT, dual socket support was pretty much native to the codebase. It was quad processor support that required certain versions from what I recall.
Interesting. I wonder if this is simply 'specs' that don't really hold up in the real world. It definitely does seem like the home branch of win10 is different than the other versions though, so I could see it being a real limitation too.Wikipedia still says home is single socket -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_10_editions#Comparison_chart
Im running ultimateYou HAVE to be running Windows PRO for dual socket support. If you have Windows Home it won't work.
If that's win7 ultimate, you're fine as it supports dual no problem:Im running ultimate

Awesome. Just make sure you have the appropriate hp cooling baffles and everything. Thanks you so much, im buying the processor
sure !! but unfortunately i had to buy a E5620 so im now with a dual E5620 and 1050 ti gpu and actually these dual processors arent that bad with gamingYou're welcome. Feel free to ask me any more questions later this week as I have a new to me z600 on the way.
The 5620 is a nice processor for just a lot of threads. But you'll need to step up to a x5650/x5670/x5680 to have a single thread performance you can use for gaming or other single thread dependent applications:I have dual x5620s. Plenty of threads though the single-core is umm, bad.
Overclocking isn't likely on an OEM board.
yeah its a great machine, hope u enjoy working on itI think I've got dual x5650s in mine as I'm just now unpacking it. Such a stout machine. I'm about to power mine on and start configuring it.
