Can I overclock my Dell inspiron 560?

Hello,

I bought new ram and it is supposed to be 1600mhz but it is only showing 800. I need to figure out how to change the settings. Here is my set-up:
General Information :

Intel G43/G45
Bios A06
Mainboard 018D1Y
Ram Corsair General Information :
DDR#-SDRAM PC3-10700
4 sticks of 2gig
ATI HD 5700 series

The 1600 MHz RAM is downclocking to 800 - if you use 1066-MHz DDR3 RAM per Dell's specs it will work.

There is a way I believe to override Dells BIOS settings but I don't know how to get that part figured out. Forgot to mention Windows 7

That is limited by the motherboard's capability.

Here are the memory specs:

Connectors four internally-accessible DDR3 DIMM sockets

1066 MHz memory will work at the rated speed of 1066.

Dell CPUs are locked - CPU and RAM frequencies are controlled by the BCLK setting. Adjust the BCLK at your own risk!

What is BCLK? I would do many things at my own risk, since I have done overclocking Dell already, but overclocking done by software, since BIOS is locked. I think the fastest RAM would be 1333, at least it is for Inspiron 570 which is sibling to 560. I am not at PC, so cannot look things up, come back tomorrow. Total RAM could go up to 16 GB and so on. Overclocking can be done only with processors which have unlocked multipliers, which ones are for Intel (like Black Edition for AMD).

Is this similar to AMD OverDrive, but for Intel? I use AOD now. There is no way unlocking BIOS. Only software overclock. I wonder how to distinguish Intel processors with unlocked multipliers? For AMD it is easy - BE, and Intel?

For Intel it is the "K" suffix. 'K' after the processor number means that it is unlocked.

I have the i7 3770K and just this morning overclocked it to 4.5 GHz (medium OC). New build.

Ok here is where I am at.

I can't find a software program that will allow me to set anything in the bios.
So I guess this means I need to change some hardware right?

Big request for info:
If I was just looking for the capability to adjust the bios settings what is the least I need to change and can you guys suggest which hardware changes I should make? New MOBO, Bios chip? And which type?

Also if I change anything like that how do I retain my windows liscense or am I just screwed if I do any of this?

Dell (and HP and others) computers are not designed to permit overclocking.

The Operating System is licensed to your computer and is not transferable. If you change the mobo, CPU, etc. to permit you to OC then you will need a new Windows license.

DDR is Double Data Rate , 2* 800 is 1600, your ram is running fine.

AMD based PCs could be overclocked using certain processors, may be Intel as well, this was not tested yet, well except tape mod, LOL

If the ran you bought is 1600mhz and the board supports 1600mhz then your fine. The computer will only display half of the total operating frequency. Try using the program SetFSB. I have a Dell OptiPlex 760 and I was told by many it is impossible to overclock. I fooled around with a few of the Dell PLL's that are supported until I eventually found one that worked. I successfully OC'd my Core 2 Quad Q9550 to 3.4ghz up from 2.83ghz and she's running stable!! SetFSB also has an option to set the bus speed on the pci slots and ddr sockets also. Hope this helps!

How did you find PLL number? By physically inspecting motherboard with flash light and magnifying glass, or there is another way?
