Hi Guys, I'm looking to overclock my FX8320 to 4.5ghz but I don't know what settings to use. I've overclocked my FX4100 to 4.4ghz on Stock voltage by just adjusting the multiplier. I was wondering if I can do the same with the FX8320?

Solution

That's a very good board to OC with. Be sure to disable turbo mode before OC'ing for best results. I usually get as high of clock speed as I can with just the multi first. Then I start playing with the core voltage if I want to go higher. The faster the clock speed, the more voltage it takes to compensate.

I have a FX-8350/R9-290 rig that has the 8350 @ 4.7 GHz with the core volts set at 1.475. But you will want to work the voltage up an increment at a time to see. The limiting...
Hi, thanks for the advice. I've got a M5A99X Evo mobo, I don't know how good it is at overclocking. I've also never had to adjust voltages and I'm scared I'll mess it up and damage the processor.
What is a good voltage for that kind of speed?

The limiting factor will more than likely be temperatures. Or some cores may start throttling. Generally, you don't want to go above 1.5v on that series of CPUs. You can, but you get above specs if you do.

Thank you so much for the advice, I'm going to play around with it tonight and see what results I get. What program is the best to monitor your CPU temps?
I know the fx 8xxx series work amazing with AMD Radeon cards! Unfortunately I've got a GTX660

There's no extra benefit to having an AMD card compared to an Nvidia card combined with your FX-8xxx processor. That's all sales hype.
The best way to monitor core temps is to monitor their thermal margins instead. AOD will show you the distance left until you reach unsafe territory: http://www.amd.com/en-us/innovations/software-technologies/technologies-gaming/over-drive
Here is a better explanation of why that is: http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-2122665/understanding-temperature-amd-cpus-apus.html

While AOD has a built-in stress testing app, I prefer to use IBT at its default settings for a quick and dirty test of OC stability. Passing that has always left me with a solid OC that doesn't crashed. So far, at least. http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/intelburntest.html
