Intel i5 4690k
MSI GTX 970 4g gaming
550w psu
1tb 7200rpm hdd
Z97 pc mate
2x4 ddr3 ram

I'm looking to overclock my cpu and gpu without increasing voltage?
Will I need to upgrade my psu? If so what would you recommend?

Solution
550w is fine even when overclocked, HOWEVER a brand would be nice. A no name PSU brand may not deliver what it's rated at.

With your GTX 970 simpy raise the core clock by about 20-50mhz at a time, take bigger steps at the beginning then make them smaller.
Testing in a full game (say in BF4) or run a benchmark such as heaven or 3dmark. If you see problems or crashes then your overlock is too high. Just keep repeating until you hit a wall where you just can't increase the core clock.
The average I beleive for a GTX 970 without overvolting is around 1450mhz. So you should make your steps smaller as you reach that.

As with your CPU same principle, simply up the core speed, possibly in 0.1ghz at a time and test in Prime 95 or Aida64...

Usually around 4.2-4.4-5ghz if you're lucky.

-good luck, do some research on Google and these forums if you need other help, there are alot of threads on simple overclocking.

edit: also with your GPU you can bump up the power limit (it is not overvolting) Simply allows more current. Also Memory clocks are also important and can be done the same way.

Thank so much and also for the speedy solution! This will help me save a couple bucks! :)
