Can i overclock my i5 3330 (Non K) ?

My clock speed right now is 3.0 ghz and i was wondering if i can oc my cpu even though it is a non-k processor. Might i be able to go into my bios and change the multiplier???

Well technically, you may be able to overclock via FSB. But you cannot overclock via CPU Multiplier. It's locked on non-k chips. There's really no point to overclock via FSB since all chips these days have a Turbo Core feature. And I've only seen a few (very few) H or B chipsets that actually can do this.

Yes. FSB is just the Base Clock for the system, I know. It's not as popular as the multiplier because there's no need to do it anymore. The old way of overclocking was increasing the FSB with a locked (or barely adjustable) multiplier.

Edit: Yes, it also increase the speed of other components in the system like RAM. But just like in the old days and now, if you pay attention to what you are doing, read and read, and watch temps, it's completely safe.

Well, I've read of people fiddling with the locked i5 3470 as well and getting it to turbo boost to about 4ghz on all 4 cores, they messed around with the turbo boost. I have an unlocked i5 myself, I just thought it was an interesting read. You might want to look around on google about increasing turbo boost on locked i5 1155 cpu as well, there were alot of forum posts on various sites I read.

I guess I just like reading about tech 😀

Your are speaking about the 100 Mhz clock. Rose by any other name is still a rose.
(1) Yes you can increase it up to approx. 105->108, HOWEVER NOT RECOMMENDED.
(2) Reason is that this clock is the bases for all others, such as CPU and Memory. Generally it is not a problem for cpu or memory as this only represents about a 5% bump - REASON it is not worth it as it takes 10->15% to even notice a change.
(3) Problem is that above 105 MHz, which is applied to the pci/pci-e bus cause instability/stability issues and above 108 can damage pci/pci-e cards.

As the old saying goes, JUST SAY NO and enjoy at stock

For CPU temps, I like RealTemp. HWMonitor is also a good tool to use.

False, if you have a board with overclocking options,. you can raise the multiplier up to the highest multiplier used for turbo. The 3330 doesn't turbo very high, so I am not entirely sure it is worth it. You could set the multiplier to 32, giving you 3.2ghz. You might be able to up the base clock to 105 for a bit more.

Increasing the bclk could damage your USB ports and devices, it's not worth touching either, unless your goal is simply to benchmark.

That chip is fine as is anyway. You would probably benefit more from a new Video card (depending on what your current card is).

My gpu is a radeon 7850 2gb stock overclocked. I am saving up for something better down the road like a 280 or 770.

That chip is fine as is anyway. You would probably benefit more from a new Video card (depending on what your current card is).
