So I used to use a HDMI cable but it malfunctioned so I changed the cables (so its not HDMI) ever since I changed it, my computer would only support 100 hz. I tried overclocking it but if I check the box where it says "This will not show hz that the monitor cant display" The 144hz option is gone. I just wanted to know if I could just overclock it to 144hz and if it would be safe.

All important factors in answering your question. Outputs/Inputs and cables have bandwidth limitations. Though I would be surprised that any HDMI connection wouldn't have a comparable DP option to go along with it.

Yes, you can overclock monitors. With things like the Custom Resolution Utility. Though in this case, you would possibly be overclocking a particular input. If the LCD and Scalar are already capable of 144hz, then something else is likely wrong. Could just be a low end cable.
