hey all, i just bought a 24" samsung pls monitor, it's the s590 1080p version and it's native 60hz. so can i do it? if so what should i shoot for? and what tools should i use? my evga gpu came with pixel overclocker maybe that? thanks either way!

Except that monitors have circuitry inside them to process the digital signal of the image and refresh the screen, which does run at a specific clock rate and can be overclocked. Monitor overclocking is a very common way to get higher refresh rates on a monitor, and is currently the only way to get more than 60Hz on an IPS monitor that I know of.

Unfortunately, I don't really know what to expect out of overclocking this specific monitor, though. If anything, you can try to overclock it, and see if it works stably. Just don't push for 120Hz or even 90Hz off the bat; it's likely to damage the monitor anyway, so don't risk it too much.

yeah i was thinking 72hz as it's not too much more and seems to fit in nicely with settings in games like borderlands 2.is pixel overclocker a decent program?

I'm not too familiar with overclocking monitors, either; I just know it can be done and there are several utilities to do it. This thread may contain some useful info for you. Do remember, though, that monitor overclocking is more likely to cause damage to your hardware than CPU or GPU overclocking, since monitors don't have many OC safeties built-in (if any).

totally and thank you, i would be hyper slow with it to see what is possible if anything. just don't want to add 1hz and cause death.

hahahahhahaha. so you should know most games can and do run higher than 60hz/60fps (not playing minesweeper here) also while there is a difference between 72hzetc and higher the notion that it isn't worth it till 100hz+ is just flat out wrong.

Very true. I recently got an old CRT to try out some stuff, and even at 75Hz there is a noticeable difference. Of course, though, it's much better at 116Hz 😛
