Can i Overclock?

Solution
i wouldn't. the vrm is poor and there is no cooling for it. you won't get far with it... at least not far past stock vcore anyway.

light overclocking... yes... it will manage.

of course you'll need a bios update to even use that chip on that board. furthermore there is only 1 4 pin plug for the cpu. the chances you'll get good usable power for any overclock attempts is pretty thin. it will overclock a little. just don't expect much

How do i update the bios

unless its been sitting on a shelf for over a year you won't need to.

you'll need to go to asus's website, download their latest bios files, they should have a bios flash tool as well... get that. use that tool on the file you downloaded... save the result onto a flash drive. start the computer up and load into the bios. last page in the bios should be a flash option, chose your flash drive, it will update the bios. now add the new cpu to the motherboard (yes, you'll need to update the bios before putting the new cpu in... or the computer won't POST... probably)

How can i update hte bios if the cpu won't work and i have no other cpus?

good question! i am awaiting the answer with baited breath.

psst the 6350 was released a year ago - "shelf life" of an old bios is 6 months. (ie a motherboard with an old bios sitting at the retailer.) asus won't be sending out motherboards that don't support 50% of the cpus that are out there. if you are really concerned then drop asus or the e-tailer an email and ask

I checked and it said it was compatible since version 1001 which was released 2012.8.03 so a little over 1 year so i should be good.

you can't

yes... but that motherboard was released 3 years ago. unless asus is still manufacturing a 3yo motherboard i expect it's old stock sitting on the shelves. its an ancient nb/sb which was developed for the PhII, back at the am2+/AM3 changeover... and one of the first AM3/AM3+ motherboards made before there were even AM3+ chips to put into it.

depending on the merchant they might be able to get a newer bios flashed onto it for him. but that's between the OP and merchant.

i guess you're not familiar with a "supply chain." asus wouldn't make a supply for three years and stockpile the inventory. and as long as retailers keep ordering the board asus will still keep making them unless the supported CPUs go EOL.

last year in septmber i bought a P867-V (which was ~2 years old itself at the time) for a build for a co-worker and guess what? the bios that came with it supported ivy bridge processors that were released just that april.

go figure.
