Can I play cracked games on Windows 8(.1)?

I have built a new gaming pc and now I want to boot Windows 8(.1).I download the most games cracked and I have heard that you can't play cracked games on Windows 8(.1)(on my old pc with windows 7 I could).Is that right or I can install Windows 8(.1)?

must of the games on steam go for sale 1-2 months after release
