Hi guys

I have a quick question regarding my mitx build. I am basically very limited on space, just imagine that I have my build on my bedside table (I live in a houseshare and the room is tiny) and I have NOWHERE to place speakers. I was wondering if I could play sound through an internal speaker attached to the mobo (I will try to find a good quality one if possible). Any suggestions?

Thanks

EDIT: At my place of work we have Lenovo's Thinkcentre computers which they are able of playing sound.

No, the internal speakers are extremely basic and barely capable of producing beep codes. They're not attached to a audio chip like one used to process audio coming out of a jack meant for speakers. Even if they could the sound would be horrible. The aio thinkcentre like you're talking about likely has integrated speakers in the monitor, not coming from the internal speaker of the motherboard. If you had a monitor with built in audio it would produce sound. I'm guessing you must have a monitor or tv screen of some sort you're using.

If you don't have room for speakers, a couple options. Headphones would be one option. If you don't mind basic tinny sound and just need sound of some sort (say to hear audio in videos, instructional and...

This company has some unique audio products, I've tried a number of them and they work (though not the best sound quality, voices are distinguishable).

They have a unit that rests on or is adhered to just about any object like a desk surface, garbage can, you name it and uses the object to amplify the sound. Laugh, but it works. lol

You can look into soundbars that may fit your existing monitor, sort of a thin external speaker similar to the speaker found on flatpanel tv's.

Thanks for the thorough explanation. My monitor does not have any speakers, I got it for free so no complaints! :) I think a usb speaker would be a temporary solution until I move to a new house and buy some proper setup. I just need the pc to do the basics, until now I have been using an old HP laptop with XP and it is becoming really frustrating...

In a crowded living situation for the moment, headphones may be the best bet. Decent sound, compact (can be put away) and will keep sound to a minimum so as not to disturb anyone else nearby. If disturbing other people with audio from your pc isn't an issue, what about smaller speakers?

Something like these, at least as a temp solution. Around $14. Not sure they can be hung from the wall, you may not want to put nails/tacks in the wall anyway. Maybe some of that sticky tape type stuff used for holding items to a wall, peels off to release?
