Can I plug a USB extension into a surge protector?

Can I plug a USB extension into a surge protector? I have a surge protector plugged into each outlet in my bedroom. I only plug small appliances in such as my phone charger, a table lamp, a speaker, string lights... My problem is that some things can't quite reach the surge protector. I have read that it is not safe to plug an extension cord into a surge protector but what about a USB extender, which is similar but with male and female USB plugs?

If your surge protector can also function as a USB charger, USB circuit is already isolated from the mains, so USB extension cord (thick enough so no voltage drop occur) should be safe.
